CIBAFI && INCEIF Roundtable Meeting to discuss “Innovative strategies in Islamic SME and value chain finance” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | Manama, Bahrain, 28th October 2015 – The General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) and the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) are set to organise a Roundtable Meeting, themed “Innovative Strategies in Islamic SME and Value Chain Finance” on the 9 - 10 December 2015 in Sasana Kijang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This Roundtable Meeting is specifically designed to bring together senior executives in charge of SME financing from Islamic Financial Institutions (IFIs) from various countries, to discuss and share the recent developments in competitive and innovative strategies on Shariah-compliant SME and value chain finance.

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), as the ‘missing middle’, are considered nowadays as a strategic target with attractive growth, where many financial institutions are moving to downstream through setting up SME units and developing customised strategies. Hence, this Roundtable Meeting on “Innovative strategies in Islamic SME and value chain finance” aims to shed light on several key challenges and initiatives in regulations and market infrastructures required to promote and sustain the Islamic SME and value chain finance. The specific focus of the Roundtable Meeting includes enabling regulations in value chain and supply chain finance for SMEs, key developments in Shariah-compliant guarantee schemes, and the importance of ecosystem of venture capital (VC) for SMEs.

The roundtable meeting will be consisting of 4 (four) sessions:

- Regulatory developments in value chain finance;

- Bringing SMEs into global value chains through Islamic value chain finance: practical insights;

- Strategic insights from SMEs’ perspectives towards Islamic financial services: Lessons learned; and

- Best practices of Venture Capital (VC) as lessons for Islamic SME finance: learning from equity-based SME finance in emerging countries.



Participation in the Roundtable Meeting is by invitation only, targeted group of participants are Senior Executives in charge of SMEs financing and Business Development operations and Heads of other relevant functions in IFIs.



The Roundtable Meeting falls under CIBAFI’s Strategic Objective, in increasing the awareness of Islamic Finance and promoting information sharing among its members and the industry stakeholders, as well as collaboration with the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) with the objective to enhance knowledge on critical issues facing the industry.
